Artistic Statement
With over 25 years of experience in abstraction, my education in Textile Design at the Autonomous University of the Caribbean and my work in various areas of design guided me towards abstraction—a form of expression that allows me to explore and communicate the intangible. Throughout my career, I have collaborated with various mentors and participated in artist residencies, processes that were crucial in developing my own artistic language, which identifies and distinguishes me.
My work is a continuous exploration of abstraction, where I use shapes, colors, and textures to communicate experiences and sensations that transcend words. Each piece reflects my interaction with the world and my search for meaning in the beauty and complexity of life.
The different stages of my life as a woman and my diagnosis of Pseudoxanthoma Elasticum (PXE) have deeply influenced my creative process. This condition has affected my vision, leading me to adapt my methods and discover new forms of expression. My art is a testament to resilience and adaptability, a celebration of the ability to create and communicate even in the face of personal challenges.
Currently, from my studio in South Florida, I continue to explore new techniques and concepts. I work with materials such as fabrics, sand, and ceramics to add texture and depth to my compositions. The cultures and places where I have lived—including Ecuador, the United States, Colombia, and Brazil—have enriched my perspective and creativity.
My work is part of private collections and public institutions worldwide, reflecting my constant commitment to artistic evolution and genuine expression. Through my pieces, I invite the viewer to an introspective dialogue, to deeply connect with their own experiences and perceptions. My art serves as a bridge between the inner and outer world, using abstraction as a universal language that invites contemplation and discovery.
